Conjure almost any dream of making a trip to Europe and it will most likely include images of brisk strolls on crowded, slim city streets with arms ringed in gift bags. Certainly there will be a Starbuck’s somewhere in view yet the mottled ornaments of aged storefronts along half cobbled roadways breathe life into this walk as you shop around as if so many reminiscences depend on it. And they do. Travel to Europe is just as much about shopping around as it is about art, parks and sidewalk bistros. But therein lies the word of caution. Who isn’t drawn in by the dramatic rug bazaars of Istanbul simply to end up with a pile of woolen dust collectors in the attic?
